Purposes

The Association, called COLLEGIUM SUBSIDIO PEREGRINO, pursues the following purposes:

  1. recognising the basic values of the Franciscan doctrine, meaning a communion with all forms of living creatures …;
  2. … so a primary exigency is the protection and valorisation of nature and environment; and of the cultural and historical aspects of the territory as well, promoting a real educational approach to “mother Nature”;
  3. renewing the ancient experiences of pilgrimage, restoring or proposing new itineraries, especially as regards the Franciscan places;
  4. reiterating the spirit of hearty welcome as in the past, when the foreigner was received and honoured with an effective spirit of fraternity;
  5. recuperating and spreading the instinct of the wayfarer, stirring up the old contact with uncontaminated nature and breathing the persistent scent of a far-off rural life;
  6. perceiving the transcendental in culture and art, spreaded abroad along the itineraries of the pilgrims to understand how humanity has always yearned for the Reconciliation in reparation of the “Original Sin”;
  7. considering the pilgrimage as a sort of psychic-physical-spiritual “remedy”, a balsam which allows us to discover our real roots, our true Authenticity, that the human failings hide;
  8. spreading every culture of pilgrimage with humility and perseverance, in total syntony with the “The Song of Creatures”, a real spelling-book of that Love “that moves the sun and the other stars” as the Divine Poet declaimed;
  9. creating in primis the pilgrimage of Assisi, linking together primitive Franciscan paths, passing through the hermitage of Montepaolo (St. Anthony’s first home in Italy), the panoramic ridge of the Appenninis, spiritual places of great seduction such as the hermitages of Camaldoli, La Verna, Casella, Cerbaiolo, Montecasale and arriving in Assisi, true cradles of Christian mysticism at the dawn of the third Millennium;
  10. planning the reception in the “pilgrims’ refuges” and managing them in a serious and wise way; renewing the essence of Francis’s doctrine. So it should be, not only the stones to testify to the stranger His Teaching, but also the renewal of the original Franciscan fraternity along the pilgrimage and in the community of Assisi itself. The town of Assisi will be raised as a “Landmark of Universal Reference” for all men and women of goodwill, overcoming in this way any distinction of  Culture and Belief in syntony with the Fundamental Principles of every True Religion.
